Family Traditions are a wonderful way to create lasting memories for your little ones to always look back to once they grow. Does your family take the time to write down or share things you are thankful for during the holidays? We have a few ideas for you to make this into a fun tradition to enjoy each and every year throughout your children’s growing years.
Materials:
- Paper, acid free scrap-booking paper will look great for many years
- Scissors, paper punch or die cutting machine
- Pen or Marker
Using any method you choose, cut your paper into festive shapes. We used a Cricut Cutter and cut leaf, oval and marquee shapes using the Storybook cartridge. Another option is to purchase a one of the newer Cricut cutting machines that work with SVG files that you can download from the internet. Simply search for “marquee SVG file” and choose which you prefer. You can then easily cut these out on a machine such as the Cricut Explore Air 2 or the popular Circuit Maker machines. You can also save some money by purchasing a Circuit Explore Air 2 Bundle which will include your vinyl and tools for a low price as well. Paper punches like EK Tools 2 inch punch would work perfectly as well. You could also free hand some leaf shapes, or use leaves from your yard to trace around. Be sure your shapes are at least 2 inches in diameter to insure there is enough room to write on.
Let your children write things they are thankful for, filling out one or two shapes a day in the week leading up to Christmas…If you can stop them! We found that once they started writing they didn’t want to stop, listing every thing they could possibly think of to be thankful for.
Keep your Thankful Notes in a special place. We chose a pretty vase, but a decorated mason jar or wooden box would also work. Alternately you could make them into a pretty bunting to hang in your kitchen or over your fireplace. Or punch holes in them and hang them on your Yarn Wrapped Tree Centerpiece.
